About Ohr Shalom - Experience the Warmth
Ohr Shalom is a unique Synagogue offering a rich cultural blend of Conservative
Judaism with a diverse international flavor that is found nowhere else in San
Diego County. We are a warm, friendly and welcoming congregation.
Today Ohr Shalom reflects the combined heritage of Beth Tefilah's deep San Diego
roots, the multicultural flavor of Adat Ami (many of whose members came from
Argentina and Mexico to San Diego), and San Diegans new and old who have found
their congregational home at the “new” Ohr Shalom.
Our members live all around San Diego and surrounding communities: in Chula Vista
and Coronado, University City and Carmel Valley, Tierrasanta and La Mesa, North
and South Park, and our growing local neighborhood between Downtown and Banker’s Hill.
Men and women play equal roles in both religious services and synagogue leadership.
We encourage adults and children to participate on the bimah, to join in discussions,
and to share their individual talents for the benefit of our congregation. The active
participation of so many members is part of what makes Ohr Shalom so special.
We seek to help our members, young and old, form lasting friendships. As a congregation
and as individuals, we teach the values of community involvement and enrichment.
At the same time, we support the State of Israel as the center of the Jewish people.
